Found: A Killian Connection

Recently, I was happy to assist my Uncle and a friend of his who also has the surname Killian to determine if we were related or not.

I'm happy to report that we indeed seem to be so.

The James A. Turner Family

James A. Turner was born 28 Oct 1806 Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to Samuel Turner (1766-1852) son of Henry Turner and Sarah Murphy, and Nancy Chiles (1764-1852) daughter of Hezekiah Chiles. 

On 25 Jan 1827, James A. Turner married Sally Ratliff  (1811- ), daughter of Jeremiah Ratliff, in Jefferson County, Alabama.

Candour McFadden & Descendants

*For the sake of brevity, I am only listing my direct ancestors in this particular posting.*

Candour McFadden was born sometime around the year 1710 in what is today County Antrim, Northern Ireland.  Though we don't know the exact dates, some family historians record that his wife was named Mary Guy.  Other family researchers state that Mary Guy was also born in County Antrim while others contest this.

Due to the difficulties one encounters when conducting Irish Family research for this time period, we may never know for certain the exact year in which he was born or where Mary, his wife, was born.

What we do know however is that they were the parents of my ancestor, Isaac McFadden (1753 - Dec 1820).  While it is not possible to know if Isaac was born in what was then "Ireland" or if he was born in "The Colonies" we DO know that both he and his parents died in Chester County, South Carolina.

This Isaac McFadden married Miss Mary Adams ( - 1830) and they made their home near Landsford, Chester County, South Carolina.  To them was born Julianna Susannah McFadden  (17 May 1812 - 18 September 1876)

This Julianna Susannah McFadden was the wife of David Hyatt and mother of Isaac McFadden Hyatt (Click here for more info on Isaac.) who was born 10 July 1831 in Chester County, South Carolina and died 27 February 1881, Chester County South Carolina.

Isaac McFadden Hyatt - Confederate Veteran

Joined First: Capt. C.J. Fladgers Co. Hatch's Battalion - later known as The 23rd at the rank of Private.

His Confederate Service Record for the 17th Reg with whom he served later states he was wounded at Manassas. The nature of the wound is unclear.

Enlisted: 1 January 1862, Camp Lee - Charleston, South Carolina.

3 Corp, Co. A, 17 Reg't South Carolina Infantry.

Appointed 2nd SGT, 1 February 1864

Captured at Petersburg 20 April 1865 - Released 27 June 1865

Prisoner of War held at Point Look Out, Maryland.

Isaac McFadden Hyatt, Confederate Veteran and I'm happy to say my 3rd Gr-Grandfather.

Isaac McFadden Hyatt - 3rd Great Grandparents.

This Hyatt line begins with a Thomas Hyatt who died ca 1783 in Edgecombe Co., North Carolina.  It continues through his son David (who married Ruth Horn) and through their son, Elijah Hyatt who married Hannah Kulp.

Elijah Hyatt and Hannah Kulp were the parents of David Hyatt who married Julianna Susannah McFadden and produced my ancestor, Isaac McFadden Hyatt.

Note: Another item of interest is that Isaac and Martha's daughter listed on the group sheet below, Margaret Catherine Hyatt, married Sidney E. Killian after Sarah Julianne Cherry Killian passed away, making Margaret the step-mother of Eston Neville Killian.  Are your eyes crossed yet?

Joseph Robert Turner

Most of what I know of this family comes from census materials and a few family stories that still exist, though the recollections are stories of stories in the present generation.  So I offer here what I have - a picture and family information.

The family were Southern Baptists and I'm told "Joe" Turner was a deacon at the Baptist Church where they attended for many years.

Joe and Julia's mothers were sisters.
